Unlike
traditional impressionist and plein air painters, Staffords
trip into the great outdoors is only the beginning of her process.
I absorb all the visual and sensual messages that nature
conveys when I am in the landscape, the air quality, light and
color contrasts. But it is later, in my studio, when I find my
own voice in what nature has shown me. Trees are what most interest
me in the landscape. Like gentle giants they stand alone or in
groups symbolizing time and endurance. |
